We jump right back into the conversation with Chad & Tayler Gilchrist from where left off in the previous episode. This is part 2 of the conversation with the Gilchrist’s and the Carentan Adventure during the summer of 2022.
Starting with working with locals/French people, in particular with Francois. Find out how he got to know Christian and the team.
There were many extras that Francois brought to the table for this project. In particular how to capture the audio for all the translation components. Also, the connections that he had and the benefits for Christian and the team to maximize the budget. They definitely got so much more for their $$$ as well as the quality and excellence.
People skills are also a major part of building the right teams and finding the right people to work with.
We get more of an insight to Chad and his influences and background in making films. Hear what his main focus has been inside the film industry.
Some of the key areas that are in protest for a project are sound and lighting. Hear Chad explain the importance of lighting and what his journey had been to become an expert in this area. Did you know there is a “lighting philosophy”? In particular Chad shares his thoughts about lighting for the Carentan filming and their budget.

Lighting was not the only area that Chad put his expertise. He was also involved in being a camera operator and co-director with Mindy Cook. They shared the load.
No project goes perfectly, and the Carentan project was no different. You will hear about some problems that were encountered and how they solved those.
Brave communication was exercised multiple times that allowed the team to achieve the results they needed.

Meanwhile in the midst of these challenges, the local police gets involved, hear how they avoid getting arrested or fined or did they bribe them with cookies…
Hear about some amazing highlights and how some of the crew went the extra mile in mud holes.
Stories upon stores of challenging experiences col things in the midst of bumping into internationals stereotypes – particularly their lodging experience.
This team championed one another in spite of the challenges. They called out the gold in each other at the end of the shoot and on air during this podcast. Christian’s dream to do filmmaking differently shone through in the many stories shared about this experience.
The future for Chad & Taylor is expansion… especially in March 2023.
